Virginia Senate Redistricting Map

Senate Redistricting map

I am not understanding why the state Senate’s redistricting plan has not been passed by the House and sent to the Governor for his signature.  It should seem to be a no brainer for the heavily republican House of Delegates because Republicans will definitely pick up one seat in the Senate and up to 6 additional seats.  In addition to that, it fixes the heavily gerrymandered mess that we now have in our state Senate districts.  The details can be found here.   Look at the map and tell me, what’s not to like for Republicans in Richmond, including the Governor?

Never mind that. What’s not to like about compact, contiguous districts that preserve communities of interest?

Perhaps because of the shenanigans the Senate Republicans pulled on January 21, 2013. They have put their House colleagues in a difficult situation .
