Transportation Tax increase on the verge of failing as 10th district republicans unanimously oppose the ‘compromise’ bill.

no new taxes

Throughout the day on Thursday, opposition grew to to the latest massive tax increase before the General Assembly in the form of transportation House Bill 2313.   The vote will occur sometime on Friday, prior to the end of this General Assembly session on Saturday.   In the Senate only a handful of republicans are now supporting the massive new transportation tax increase and democrats aren’t fond of it either because it doesn’t increase taxes as high as they would prefer and it doesn’t expand medicaid as much as they would like.

On Thursday night the 10th District Republican committee voted unanimously to adopt the following resolution opposing the transportation tax increase:

>>>>RESOLUTION ON TAX INCREASES
WHEREAS, the Republican Party has always stood for the principles of limited government, fiscal
responsibility, and most notably, lower taxes; and

WHEREAS, the Republican Party has historically been a Party driven by its grassroots activists and their
elected representatives advocating a conservative message of fighting tax increases; and

WHEREAS, it is the utmost duty of elected officials and the Republican Party leadership to consult with,
inform and otherwise listen to the views of their constituents on policy and Party leadership issues; and

WHEREAS, Republicans in both the House of Delegates and the Senate have supported certain legislation in
the Virginia General Assembly that would result in tax increases being imposed on Virginia families; and
WHEREAS, Republicans in both the House of Delegates and the Senate have supported certain legislation
pending in the Virginia General Assembly that would result in the requirement that localities in the Tenth
Congressional District impose commercial and industrial tax increases in order to qualify for transportation
funding from the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Republicans in both the House of Delegates and the Senate have supported certain legislation
pending in the Virginia General Assembly that would result in granting localities in the Tenth Congressional
District the authority to impose a local income tax on Virginia families; and

WHEREAS, the Tenth Congressional District Republican Committee takes no position on whether legislators
should sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, but notes that some of the Republicans in Virginia General
Assembly who have signed said Pledge have taken votes that violate the Pledge; and

WHEREAS, the Tenth Congressional District Republican Committee, on behalf of Republican grassroots
activists, strongly opposes any legislation that would result in increased taxes on Virginia families and business
in the Tenth Congressional District;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Tenth Congressional District Republican Committee commends  the members of its delegation to the General Assembly that have voted against legislation that would result in

tax increases on Tenth District families and businesses; and be it furtherRESOLVED, that Virginia’s Tenth Congressional District Republican Committee urges all members of its

delegation to the General Assembly to oppose any legislation that would result in tax increases on Tenth
District families and business; and be it further,

RESOLVED, that Virginia’s Tenth Congressional District Republican Committee urges all members of its delegation to the General Assembly who have elected to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge to stand true to their word and oppose all legislation that would violate the Pledge; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the Secretary and Chairman of this committee cause a copy of this resolution to be transmitted to all members of the Virginia Tenth Congressional District Republican Committee delegation to the General Assembly, to the Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia and to the chairpersons of all Republican units in the 10th Congressional District.<<<

At the 10th district meeting on Thursday night it was clear that republicans are very opposed to the transportation bill that will be borne by Virginia families in massive tax increases.  The only question that remained was how will we hold accountable the republican delegates and senators who vote for these tax increases, after promising no new taxes when they ran for office.  Republicans will not forget, or forgive, those representatives who betrayed our trust.

No…The only question that remained was how will the GOP EVER fund any transportation improvements?

How to fund transportation? Take the money from other, useless, programs! The General assembly has plenty of money, they need only to prioritize spending!

The General Assembly is making it very clear that they don’t care what their former supporters think, or the voters. We get taxed to death while the truckers, developers, and big businesses save a fortune. Nice, huh?
