My Good Friend Spike Williams announced his run for the Chairmanship of the Fairfax Board of Supervisors this morning ;
OakHill, Virginia – March 3, 2011 – A popular figure in the community, Michael “Spike” Williams today announced that he is running for Chairman of the Fairfax Board of Supervisors. A small business owner, father, and husband, Williams’ campaign will focus on providing the leadership he feels has been lacking in recent years.
“The current majority on the Board of Supervisors has a spending problem,” stated Williams. “There is a lack of understanding of what it takes to create jobs and economic opportunity for Fairfax County, and they have not provided the visionary leadership necessary to move us forward. Oppressive traffic congestion caused by poor planning, an ever expanding bureaucracy bent on being the largest landlord in the county, and a government that wants to absorb the private sector instead of supporting it, are just a few examples.”
Williams had been concentrating on a VA Senate run in late 2010. It was through his initial campaigning efforts that he began to realize his efforts were needed closer to home.
“Having grown up here, I am proud to call Fairfax my home. I have seen firsthand the benefit of world-class schools, plentiful jobs, and a quality of life that few places in America can claim,” states Williams. “Unfortunately, I have also had to bear witness to its steady decline – and this concern is echoed in the voices of many residents concerned about the state of our county.”
