Amid a cloud of special interest plans, some of which were of dubious value, the Spotsy BoS moved forward with “Plan 1A- Modified” last night, advancing it to the public hearing stage. This plan, though not perfect, has a lot to recommend it:
-It creates competitive districts in Eastern Spotsy.
-It does not gerrymander.
-It keeps communities of interest together (ie, does not split subdivisions).
-It keeps the core of the old districts intact.
-It maintains the integrity of the two primarily rural districts.
For all the disagreement with this Board over budget and policy issues, this appears to be one they got right. No “Redistrictinator” from DEI required.
