BREAKING: Cantor Stepping Down As Majority Leader By The End Of July

Following his primary loss to Dave Brat last night, Eric Cantor will announce later today that he will resign his post as House Majority Leader by the end of July.

UPDATE 1:

House Republicans will hold elections for majority leader and majority whip on June 19, according to GOP sources.

  1. I heard that Cantor is planning to support Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California — the current Majority Whip — for the position of Majority Leader. One way or the other, there will be a base/establishment battle for either the position of Leader or for Whip.

    1. It looks like it will come down to Kevin McCarthy of California vs. Pete Sessions of Texas for Majority Leader. Might be a more interesting race for Majority Whip.
