Congresswoman-Elect Comstock Meets with Franchise Owners in Loudoun

Ahead of last week’s ruling by the National Labor Relations Board that it would look into supposed misconduct by McDonalds, a local franchise owner met with Congresswoman-elect Barbara Comstock to discuss franchise issues.

The NLRB ruling could set in motion changes to the franchise model that could have wide ranging implications for tens of thousands small businesses across the country – including many in Northern Virginia.  An unelected board could upend the franchise model and institute a new “joint employer” mandate, essentially making franchise employees also employees of the global franchise brand.  Such a move could reduce local control over franchises and stifle job growth and investment in the industry.
